The Europe of the Peoples, respectively the Europe of the Regions are socio-political concepts for a decentralized version of a United Federal Europe. We support this concept both as the Parliamentary Monarchy of Duckionary and as the Austrian Political Party Minority List of Austria - Danube Federation.

The concept of Micronationalism is not new. Especially (but not only) in France, micronations are an important factor of local and in some cases like the République libre du Saugeais, also of regional identity. In a country that is ruled in a strictly centralistic way, although there are recent positive developments regarding for example the autonomy of Corsica, micronations are a counter-reaction to that. Micronations can be very helpful in strenghening local communities. They provide a strong identity, bring people together and function as a hub for community activities. In France, but also in other places, Micronations are already an integral part of regional and local identity. Through its entirely ceremonial territories in Austria, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Croatia and in the Czech Republic, the Parliamentary Monarchy also, inspired by the great example of French Micronationalism, strenghtens local communities, local culture and regional identity.

Regionalism and Micronationalism are not opposites, but rather ideal complements to one another. The concept of a Europe of the Peoples, respectively a Europe of the Regions is championed at the European level by, among others, the European political party known as the European Free Alliance (EFA). One of our federal executives is a former parliamentary candidate of an EFA Member Party and maintains friendly informal relations with representatives from some EFA member parties. However, the EFA does not hold an exclusive partisan monopoly on regionalism and minority policy; these issues are also represented within the ALDE Party and the European Democratic Party. Regionalist parties also exist within other groups at the European level, for instance, in the Party of the European Left. But they are found even among the right, such as the right wing of the Flemish separatist movement. However, regionalism and minority policy are not unknown concepts within the European Pirate Party either. Since its founding, our Catalan sister party has been a determined political force advocating for the freedom of the Catalan people and the independence of the Catalan Republic. 

The Pirates of Catalonia have even participated in pro-independence electoral alliances such as the Republican Front and the Popular Unity Candidacy. Through their involvement with the Popular Unity Candidacy, the Pirates of Catalonia even held parliamentary representation for some time. With our political party, the Minority List of Austria – Danube Federation, serving as an observer member, the European Pirate Party has been able to sharpen its profile regarding regionalism and minority issues. We stand in solidarity with our fellow Catalan Pirates. In the European Parliament, the European Pirate Party is closely allied with the European Free Alliance anyway, given that since the 2009 European election, the party’s MEPs have consistently joined the Greens/European Free Alliance parliamentary group.

The micronation known as the Parliamentary Monarchy of Duckionary, with its ceremonial territories and its planned capital city on the former Yugoslav enclave Pocket 1, and the officially registered Austrian political party Minority List of Austria – Danube Federation are two completely distinct entities. Naturally, the two maintain friendly ties, and the political party was founded by individuals associated with the micronation's broader community.

The political party Minority List of Austria – Danube Federation is meant to candidate in Austrian elections on all levels. From City Councils up to the European Parliament. Besides that, it is also supposed to function as a cultural representation for the many ethnic minorities in the Republic of Austria.

The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was a plurinational, multiethnic and multireligious Empire. It was home to Austrians, Hungarians, Czechs, Jews, Slovaks, Poles, Slovenes, Romanians, Croats, Serbs, Ruthenians, Italians, Ladins, Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Silesians, Turks, Greeks, Romani, Sorbs and others. Naturally, there are people in the Republic of Austria from all the former territories of the Habsburg Monarchy. 

However, the interests of Austria's ethnic minorities are significantly underrepresented, both politically and culturally. The Minority List of Austria – Danube Federation advocates for the concerns of Austria's ethnic minorities. As a representative body for Austria's minorities, we also seek participation in the Non-Aligned Movement, the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization, the Council of Europe and United Nations organizations.

Our micronation also aims to become involved with the United Nations. The Groothertogdom Flandrensis, a Belgian micronation that maintains a friendly diplomatic partnership with the Parliament Monarchy of Duckionary, that claims territories in Antarctica, has demonstrated, through successfully obtaining Observer Status at the United Nations Environment Assembly and accreditation with the United Nations Environment Programme, that micronations too have the opportunity to play a constructive role within United Nations organizations at the civil society level.

As a political party, we advocate for all of Austria's minorities. However, the focus of our work is the Czech minority. This is due both to our party's regional emphasis and to family and personal ties to the Czech Republic.
The Parliamentary Monarchy of Duckionary and the Minority List of Austria - Danube Federation both are willing and ready to assume an active and responsible role in the world.
