The Gymnasion of ancient Greece serves as a vital source of inspiration for both sports and academia. Fitness centers are often referred to as "Gyms", while (particularly in German-speaking regions) ''Gymnasium'' is a common term for High Schools. In his book ''Your Health'', Joseph Hubertus Pilates, founder of the world-famous training method that bears his name, lauded the physical education practices of ancient Greece as exemplary. Renaissance humanists admired the philosophers of ancient Greece.
Yet, it is strange that seemingly no one has thought to bring the holistic educational approach of the Greek Gymnasion embodied by the Greco-Roman principle of ''Mens sana in corpore sano'' (a healthy mind in a healthy body), into the modern era? Why not revitalize the ancient Gymnasion as a hub for both physical and intellectual training?
In Panagua, that is exactly what we intend to do! The ''Gymnasion of Panagua'' will be an innovative center that combines the features of a fitness studio, a wellness center, a library, a school, and a university. The Gymnasion of Panagua will operate as an affiliated institute of the Paweł Brzostowski University of Applied Sciences. In doing so, the Gymnasion of Panagua takes into account the spatial constraints of our small city-state; above all, however, by adapting the holistic education of ancient Greece for the modern age, we aim to enable the people of our state to achieve the highest level of mental and physical well-being. This is expected to enable us to keep the costs of the Duckonian healthcare system low while simultaneously offering the highest possible quality of life.
For as the 19th-century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, who hailed from Gdańsk, already knew: Health is not everything, but without health, everything is nothing.
